Abstract

This paper brings some reflections on work in the context of the “digital revolution”, the gig economy and platform work, pointing
to premises for the construction of the legal framework. It defends the persistence of the centrality of work in the digital age and the
need to redefine the debate around the future of work, in addition to proposing that the analysis should be focused less on the number of jobs that will eventually be lost and more on the quality of work in the digital age. It examines the diversity of activities currently carried out through platforms, especially those whose central object is human work. By identifying the flexibility, adaptability and modernity of the “legal subordination” category, it highlights its operability for framing some types of platform workers as employees. Finally, it points out the possibilities of control that the new technological tools allow to carry out over the professional and personal life of workers and lists aspects that must be considered in the construction of the regulatory framework for work in the digital age.
